Bible for Gen Z

Verse of the day

One verse, the real text and a version in your words, a reflection that engages it, and one small thing to try. No streak shaming.

September 16
11and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you, 12that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.
Gen Zsame meaning, your words

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, mind your own business, and work with your own hands, like we told you. That way you'll live decently in front of people outside the church, and you won't be dependent on anyone.

Real talk

Nobody puts 'lead a quiet life' on a vision board, but Paul does, as an ambition. In a culture that treats being seen as the point, a life that mostly consists of doing your work and not being a burden looks small. Paul thinks it looks credible. Sometimes the most convincing thing about your faith is that you show up and do your job.

A prayer, if you want one

God, I'm tired of needing to be noticed, so help me be content doing my work well and quietly.

Every month, every day

The whole year is written. Each month has its own thread: fresh starts in January, love in February, the cross and the empty tomb in spring, exams in May, fear in October, Advent in December.
